Hello folks, will be in Nottingham this weekend and wanted to get some training in. Do any of the climbing walls in and around Nottingham have system boards available? (either Kilter, Tension or Moon). Have a car so anywhere in the Nottingham area is good.

Thanks for reaching.

Nottingham climbing centre has a good training section. One upstairs and another torture chamber around the back. Not sure if the stuff is any of the brands you mentioned as I've never really paid much attention. That's the only Nottingham wall I use so I can't advise on the other. There are also options in Derby which is only a short drive away depending on which part of Nottingham you are in.

NCC will be your best option in Notts.

NCC is probably your best bet: it has an electronic systems board and a spray board upstairs - unbranded - take the grades with a pinch of salt.  It has a circuits "tunnel" upstairs as well if you want laps. The bouldering setting is always good. You can park here as well and the tram stops next door.

There is a small woody at the Depot but this is more a YA dating venue than a training venue but YMMV. Not easy to park a car here but it's close to the centre of town so dead easy with public transport.

There is a 25 degree Moon Board at the University of Nottingham - but it is so unpleasantly warm and sweaty there I wouldn't recommend it.

If you're out west of Nottingham the Unit in Derby is always nicely set - there are training facilities there but you'll be distracted by the bouldering. You can park here.

Not sure what the Climbing Station at Loughborough has - I do thnk it has a branded or electronic board - there's stuff to train with though - you can park here.

If you must have a kilter or moon board then it's Sheffield AW (the Hangar might have a kilter) or Depot (lots of training stuff).

All good info. To add to it:

There is actually a Moon board in Nottingham, it's at the University of Nottingham David Ross Sports Village climbing wall. That is open to the public, but it is small so you generally have to use their online system to book a session.

Edit: I see that they have introduced a competency test, so unless one is available at the same time as the actual session you want to book, that's probably not a very good choice of venue.

The Depot is your typical modern bouldering wall (allthough quite small) but the specific training facilities are crap, they have a small board at 35 degrees.

Loughborough has a good board but I don't think it's branded.

Can't comment on NCC as I rarely go (wrong side of town for me)

Thanks for all the replies and local knowledge. If I end up at NCC is there anyone around for routes? Need to get some mileage in for outdoor route fitness.

Cheers

Tim
