I’m looking for a cheap and cheerful van conversion person/company near Sheffield or Manchester area (or thereabouts). The ones I found online seem to be pimping Vdubs for the cost of a small house! I’m after a basic job, windows, carpet, rnr bed and a unit. Thanks!

Have a look at billy button campers, he's done good work for a friend in the past! Not sure exactly on price though I'm afraid but think he's pretty reasonable.

Hi Ramon,

I work for Orange Campers in Rotherham just outside Sheffield. Drop them a message via the website and you can have a chat about what you need.

I am just a joiner/fitter for the company so don't decide what work we take on, or do any sales so I can't advise on cost, but we can certainly do the simple conversion you're after.

I could do the conversion for you myself at weekends but won't have any time to do it this summer as we're expecting a baby in 6 weeks and I'm trying to get out climbing as much as possible before then!

If you've never lived in a van for a few days before hire or borrow one, it's only when you're using one you think I'd like storage for this, why put that there etc..even a basic fit is worth a bit of deliberation. Much depends on your intended use, sounds like you'll get some good advice from those above in Rotherham.

I lived full time in vehicles for almost a decade, did some converts on vw's  transits, horse boxes and more.

i found the holy grail was to find a wrecked caravan on scrap yard,  and strip the interior.

What van are you building out?

Insulation, windows, carpet and fitting a RNR bed are time consuming but pretty easy DIY.

You can get custom kitchen units off eBay.

Happy to lend tools and a hand.

Thanks Andy, it looks like they only do pre-set models you can choose from telling by looking at the website. Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately I'm looking for something a bit more simple than that.

I had a van for 14 years, lived in it extensively, and yes I certainly know exactly what I want, I have drawn the plans and specified pretty much everything, it's just finding the people to do it

They make lovely stuff indeed, seen my friend Jerome one and it's beautiful. I will contact them indeed see if they can do one with plain carpeting and off the shelf units (anything bespoke is £££)

Building a second one, a basic one to clock the miles, the old faithful has 300k on it not and I want to preserve it a bit for longer holidays. I want a super basic Vito conversion, literally insulation, carpet, bang in a unit and bolt a r'n'r bed. I'm getting windows cut out. It's virtually impossible to find anyone who can do the basic work, everyone want to lump something bespoke or some fancy this or that. I could probably do it myself, but I just don't have the time or space. But thanks for the offer, I hope you are well!

It may look like that from the website but I can confirm we regularly do smaller custom build jobs and sometimes just supply custom wardrobe/kitchen units or just ply line and carpet vans or fit one-off poptop roofs. I think we did one for Ben Moon about 6-7 years ago!

Even if you don't want to have a conversion with OC Rich is a nice chap and with many contacts he would happily point you in the direction of someone else who would fit your price point better so it's worth a phone call.

Hope you get what you're after either way 👍

Check out Andi at not just campers. Based south of Wakefield so not too far from Sheffield. He will do whatever you want - he's done a caddy (simple job just carpet, one window and leisure battery) and a T6 for me (still a bespoke conversion as we didnt want a fridge or wardrobe and wanted to fit bikes in the back of a SWB).  Good quality work, reasonable price and 100% not an off the shelf approach that you see from many converters.

You can find them on Instagram/Facebook under that name or i think they have a basic website.
