Peru: Huayhuash & Ausangate trek company recommendations

My wife and I have flights to Lima in Sept/Oct.

We are intending to do treks round Huayhuash from Huaraz, then Ausangate from Cusco. Old age and knackered knees mean that we will be doing these with local guiding companies.

Does anyone have any recent company recommendations, preferably from personal experience?

Also looking at an easyish mountain probably from Huaraz. Anyone got recent experience of Nevado Mateo? Is it likely to be possible to get a taxi to the roadhead and do it ourselves? Or much simpler to just arrange it with a local company including gear rental?

Thanks

Long time ago....but I really enjoyed the Ausengate circuit. Nice little peak climbed on the way and hot springs at the end.

I lived in Cusco back in 2008 and did some work with Amazonas Explorer. Still on good terms with the owners. Give them a shout for some advice / option.  They are world class for safety, experience and local knowledge. https://amazonas-explorer.com/

Seconded for Amazonas Explorer for Cusco based adventures. Excellent outfit.

Mateo is very straightforward. The snowy bit is a stepped out, crampons and axe needed but that's it. I can get you a quote for transport only from a taxi driver contact in Huaraz if you like, and you can compare it to going with a company. Early start.

Vallunraju is also doable in a day but that'll be quite a long day.

Lots of pretty lakes to day hike to from Huaraz. PM me if you'd like my standard acclimatisation routine of hikes, with GPX files!

Many thanks for the responses.

Will give Amazonas explorer a shout.
