Can anyone recommend a mobile phone case design/ brand/ setup with a lanyard that is any good?
(specifically in this case a pixel phone..)

I found a thread on here from 2019 with a few (now outdated) suggestions. Wondering if there was a decent current way to hang a phone on a harness or securely attach in a pocket or hang round a neck or with a wrist strap?

Any ideas?

I used to carry a compact camera on routes in a little case karabinered to my harness. But I'm mainly just taking my phone with me now. But I'm sure to drop it at some point...
Cheers

Just buy a cheap plastic case for your phone, and thread a very thin (2mm) bit of accessory cord though an existing hole. If no such hole exists punch one with a nail or drill one (I’ve never needed to do this on the 4 differed phones I’ve had a leash on). Tie the thin cord into a small loop. Then get a bigger loop of and larks foot that through the small loop. This makes the leash removable for situations when a you don’t want a phone leashes.

Get a small Karabiner (DMM XSRE is nice) and clip to the leash.

What Tom said. Larksfooted a nice little strap from an old compact camera onto a cheap plastic case.

The camera strap has a plastic slider to open and close the loop, so you can tuck it up to your wrist or a crab, or open it up wide. Looks a bit less dirtbag than "just cord" - but you do you of course...

Works with a tiny crab to a top vest pocket for trailrunning, however you want for climbing, salopette strap for ski touring/winter climbing. In all cases, it's handy for photography or nav but totally secure. Just watch your distance from avalanche transceiver if you do that stuff.

Done it about ten years now, works really well. My family don't wince at it (and they would...)

I've used Catalyst cases for my last couple of iPhones. They come with a good lanyard and I'm generally very happy with them. No idea if they also make them for Pixels

I've bought a thingy from Home Bargains, for £2, it skips inside your case with a hole attached to clip a lanyard. Not sure I'd trust it fit clipping to a harness, but it's handy.

Pretty much the same at this one in Amazon with is the first thing I found on Google https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=phone+lanyard&adgrpid=54726166498&gad_...

Armour x, after trying quad lock etc etc.

Good solid fitting for RAM mount on the bike as well.

Avant have one that is very minimalist and inserts into your current phone case. Been using it for a while and it's ideal for me

Yes - I've seen a few that are all much of a muchness and just some sort of fabric patch with a D-ring that pokes through the charging cut-out of the case.

I've got a LifeVenture phone case for mine, as needed something for watersports.

This is what I did, i got a phone specific holder with lanyard. Dumped the lanyard and put the keyring through one of the holes the lanyard went through. Then you can clip a carabiner to it or thread rope etc. I usually clip it to my harness, even when climbing indoors.

Cut out a dumbbell shape from a sheet of plastic eg a drink bottle. Fold it over to make a table tennis bat shape. Thread a sling through the slot in your case for charging cable and hook the bat around it. Pull the handle of the bat through the slot with the sling. Pop the phone back in the case.

If it's for the outdoors what about this sort of thing?

I use this for work - it keeps a surprisingly solid grip and is pretty stretchy so I imagine it will work with any standard size phone.

I’ve got one of these on a piece of cord larksfooted to my belt loop and then the phone is stowed in my trouser pocket. Also use it at music festivals so i can’t get my phone lost or stolen.

Saw this the other day, obvs you could make your own and save £11 but looks suitably basic.

I made something similar but use 4mm bungee cord.

My mate successfully adopted the 2mm lanyard approach, advised by Tom et al, after a couple of spectacular phone jettisoning incidents, both involving a plummet of approaching a thousand feet...

From Scenic Cruise (5.10d) https://rockaroundtheworld.co.uk/2019/08/29/the-scenic-cruise/

... and Brujas/La Franco Espanola (ED1) https://rockaroundtheworld.co.uk/2023/08/14/tozal-del-mallo-ordesa-las-bruj...

In both cases the phone survived intact (or at least operable)! A mystery phone call from "Mary" in Colorado sadly didn't result in the return of the phone from the depths of The Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Better result from Tozal del Mallo when a kindly local not only found the phone but arranged for its safe return and refused to accept payment for the postage!

Cheers, Dom
