There are a number of volunteer roles currently open, to be filled at the AGM in September: https://www.thebmc.co.uk/en/jobs
We're creating two new councillor roles to bring new voices to Members' Council:
- Constituency Councillor for Youth to represent those under 27, open to those between 18 and 26
- Nationally Elected Councillor for Performance to represent those in the competition space, potentially suitable for a competitor, coach, parent or route setter for example.
There's also a vacancy for a Nominated Director to balance and further strengthen the Board - open to those nominated by one of the BMC sector partners.
There's loads of talent and enthusiasm in the UKC / UKH community - why not take a look and throw your hat into the ring?
Cheers, Dom

In reply to Dominic Oughton - BMC President:

For the role of Nominated Director, can you clarify further please examples of 'sector partners' who might nominate candidates?

I checked the 12 June 2024 articles here:

https://media-cdn.incrowdsports.com/c04a5940-3d30-4efe-a500-5136a29bee29.pd...

and this doc makes no mention of 'sector partners' as a term. The articles do reference Stakeholders instead of 'sector partners' but don't give any further detail on what the recognised stakeholder groups are:

Stakeholder:

1. a Member; or
2. a specific subgroup of the Members representing a recognised
stakeholder group (e.g. climbers, hill walkers, Welsh Members,
competitive athletes etc.); or
3. a third party individual or organisation with an interest in the
achievement of the Object

Is it down to the applicant to evidence how/why they represent a sub-group that they think is relevant? e.g. Does this mean groups like climbing clubs, Ramblers Association, Welsh-language advocacy group etc? Is there a more detailed list somewhere that is not in the articles? Thanks

In reply to Dominic Oughton - BMC President:

Also, the vacancy states the role is voluntary but also lists a workplace pension contribution of 6% and holiday allowance - assume these are copied across incorrectly from other paid role vacancies?

In reply to Si Witcher:

Hi Si

Thanks for taking an interest and it's a good question about the definition of a "sectors partner". Here's the response from the horse's mouth (aka our Company Secretary)

Sector partners in this respect is equivalent to stakeholder groups 2 and 3. We have reached out to the following groups directly asking for the nomination of candidates but this is not an exhaustive list by any means: Mountain Training England, Mountain Training UK&I, ABC, NICAS, Mountain Training Trust, PyB.

If there were any doubt as to eligibility then it would be for the applicant to evidence eligibility but it should be noted that category 3 especially is quite broad as many individuals and organisations can clearly evidence an interest in achievement of the BMC objects. All the groups Si lists should fall under this. There isn’t a definitive list of every organisation eligible (it would be very extensive) but anyone in doubt is invited to contact the office for clarification.

Hope that helps

The workplace pension and holiday allowance point is a cut and paste error (well spotted) and the roles are entirely voluntary (as with all our Board and Members' Council members with the obvious exception of our CEO, who earns every penny!) Having said that, 6% of £0 doesn't amount to much

Anyway, great if you were interested in throwing your hat into the ring! Drop me a PM if you want a chat about the roles.

Cheers, Dom
