I wanted a holiday in Val di Mello Italy with family 2 older teens.  But the wife is fed up of Italy, she wants to go to Norway...(but she want to fly to Italy for 5 days on way home!)

Is there anywhere in Norway with the same concentration of quality varied sport/bouldering/trad etc. It has to be scenic and with somewhere to take those that aren't bothered about climbing.

Or, should I just sack it off and stay on Yorkshire limestone?

Lago di Como and Norwegian fjord water temps comparison would be useful.

Many thanks

How are you planning on getting there and moving around once there? Lofoten has trad, sport and bouldering in a relatively compact area, but it's a long way away.

Oslo??  There are (were) cliffs in the city and there's Kolas on the outskirts or at least they were outskirts 30+years ago.  Accessible using the local transport system and a bit of a walk.  If the weather is bad there's plenty to see and do in Oslo too

Lofoten might fit the bill but is quite busy in the summer months. Water temp currently 16-18 degrees. Oslo has a surprisingly good selection of all three. Østmarka, Hauktjern, Hellerud and Kolsås are worth mentioning. But the Oslo fjord is quite polluted and might not match your expectations for a bathing destination. I'd also look up Bohuslän, which is in Sweden but close to the Norwegian border and historically a contested area. Bohus has excellent climbing, relatively warm and clean water and lots of history including fortresses and castles.

In reply to Drew Peacock: Oslo would be good, Bergen area? Lots of places .. what sort of grades?

Came here to write Bergen.

150 or so crags (most are on UKC), loads of other stuff to do as well. Easy to get to and from.

Currently around 20 degrees in the fjord. Even the rivers east in Voss were a comfortable temperature.

Lots of valley floor crags opposite the  Trollveggen (Troll Wall) with more Alpine style routes i.e. Kongen on the plateau above.

BUT: Do check the cost of living, especially alcohol.
