Can anyone recommend a family friendly crag near Troutbeck, Windermere? Ideally with short, easyish routes? Thanks!

Brant Fell would certainly be ok for the "picnic" bit of family friendly but I don't know whether the slabby bits (there may be some bits that are too easy to have recorded problems) would be suitable for the climbing you're looking for.

There must be a local on UKC who can answer those questions.

Pets bridge. Short approach, really nice setting, close by, great rock.

Is that the obvious slab up on the right as you approach the junction by the Inn? I have always been intrigued by it, but shamefully have never made the effort to have a look.

Yes, as you go up The Struggle it's on the right as the road starts to switchback.

Church Crag down St. John's in the Vale is less than 20min drive from Windermere.

Think it faces east so good for afternoon shade if its hot.

Short crag with belay bolts on top. Mostly in the D/VD range with a couple of harder routes.

Brown Howe Quarry about 2 minutes walk, but not a great view ...

Seat How, much better location, but a bit of a drive from Windermere

Agreeing with petegunn Church Crag, St johns has location and an easy walk. Obviously not accessible on Sundays. Note there was at least one shut gate when i was last there (and its a fairly steep hill).

That’s the American usage of switchback, is it Mark?

This I want to see 😁

Through Ambleside and past Rydal, Grasmere and that "lovely" 40 section along Thirlmere - hmm.

Haha yes! I maybe should have added the cravat of 'if sat behind tourist traffic in high season it may take slightly longer' but then again if sat behind a 'local' you may get there under 20mins! 😉

Many thanks for all the recommendations, we ended up at Pets Bridge, which worked out perfectly!

Cravat?  Is that your phone “correcting”? Or is it just your little joke? If the latter, I like it.
