I have bought new heels for my freeride boots.

can someone recommend a cool person who can fit them onto my boots for me, ideally around Central Scotland?

Thanks!

Thanks for replying, unfortunately I have heard mixed reviews of their ski services but will bear them in mind.

Perhaps a daft question but do the replacement heels not have screw holes etc so you just unscrew the old ones and screw on the new ones? Certainly that's what I did when replacing the soles on my downhill boots.

If Tiso isn't an option then perhaps Craigdon - not sure if the Edinburgh one still does ski kit since it downsized?

Otherwise I'm not sure where in the central belt.

There's Craigdon in Perth and Inverness both have ski workshops. As do Braemar/Cairngorm Mountain Sports in Braemar/Aviemore.

As above, it's a simple DIY job......

In reply to Fiona Reid:

Thanks.  I haven't got the replacement heels yet so it may indeed turn out to be a simple screw off screw on job.

In my experience they are either permanently moulded on, or are a screw replacement.

If it's a screw replacement then take it easy, don't use a powered driver and strip the sole threads or round out the screw heads like a very well renowned fitter did to my all mountain boots! Otherwise it's simple.

If all else fails, not local to you but Backcountry UK in Otley are great guys, good fitters and techs and climb as well as ski.

In reply to Diggery:

Thank you for a thoughtful reply, stripping the threads is precisely why I want a pro to do it!  I agree, BackcountryUK are awesome, I got the boots from them and their service is outstanding.

Last time I was in the Edinburgh Craigdon - early this year, so still during the ski season - it was pretty much all ski stuff.  I suppose it's possible that they change the stock around according to the seasons, or adjust the proportions, but given that they had what seemed to be a dedicated ski workshop in the back corner of the basement they now occupy underneath Sainsbury's, I'd be surprised if they couldn't do the job required.  (They were certainly prepared to give my skis an edge & wax before I next went out.)

I replaced the heels on my own 20+ year old resort skiing boots last year, after they (the rubber heels) had perished and fallen off mid-holiday (eek).  They came with the necessary fitting screws and the job was pretty straightforward.  As mentioned above, given that the holes the screws go in to are in a plastic moulding, it's advisable to take it easy with the torque you apply through the screwdriver.  If you're not confident that you have the necessary "feel" for that kind of thing then best get someone else to do it.  At least that way you can blame them if your otherwise OK boots end up unusable...
