Evening all,

I’m in the market for a 3-person tent as I start my influence campaign to get my two children (7 & 5) into wild camping. My initial choice was the Elixir 3 as I’d appreciate two porches with three of us in the tent, but the Tindheim 2 seems to get great reviews - especially in regard to spaciousness - that I’ve decided to read across to the 3 Looking initially at use on the lower fells and in good weather (don’t want to put the children off before we’ve even got started), but would like something capable of withstanding more adverse conditions as and when the time comes.

I’m conscious that neither are super lightweight (especially not the Tindheim), but we won’t be putting in huge days and so I’m happy to trade weight for space (and lower outlay). I can pick up either tent for £320, so cost comparison isn’t a factor.

Would appreciate any advice from anyone who has used either - or both!

Many thanks,

Richard

I use the Elixer 3 when car camping, but not when i am hiking,  for that its a tera nova laser exibition 2.

the main reason for not taking the elixer is not weight,  but pack size,  if it packed smaller it would be perfect.

your needs are different to mine though,  when hiking i cut toothbrushes in half lol  and weigh everything.

Probably be fine with kids but it seems like a lot of the 3 person versions of tents these days are only about 20cm wider than the 2 person version.

I have the elixir 2 and find the two doors and porches to be really useful, I imagine with 3 people it would be even more so.

Side opening is also a lot easier than the shuffling around needed with a tunnel tent. The elixir I have took a pretty good beating by the winds in Patagonia but remained intact. Most of the tunnel tents survived but their occupants can't have slept much.

You might also get one of those rare nights where you don't need the fly sheet and can just look at the stars, that wouldn't be possible with the Tindheim.
