TC Pro sizing

Just received 2 pairs of these. I'm a 42 in a Miura velcro with narrow, low volume feet.

Based on the Rock and Run shoe size calculator I ordered a 42 and a 42.5. The 42 immediately felt too small, the 42.5 is snug but feels nice. My big toe is straight in my smaller foot but right at the point of the shoe and just a little bunched in the larger one. The other toes are  curled up but don't feel under masses of pressure. I think they'd need to give a little but not much to be comfy.

I'm likely to be using them for long trad days up to E2.

Does this sound about right in other folks experience or should I go up again?

First impression is that they feel like absolute weapons which is usually a good sign in my experience.

I also wear Miura velcros - in size 39. I've been wearing TC pros in a size 40, but wish I'd gone up further, as for long routes they still are a tad on the tight size. I feel like buying your normal shoe size in the TC pro seems the way to go, as don't feel like your toes should be bunched up at all in them, as that is not really the point in this type of shoe. I wish I'd got a 41.5, as doing lots of crack multipitches really needs comfort when you're just smashing the shoes in foot jams the whole time, and would be nice to wear thin socks when it's cold! Hope this somewhat makes sense.

That's very helpful, thanks. I think I'll return both of the ones I have and try a 43 or even 43.5.

If you go up too big it's not a massive problem. I have two pairs half a size different, both pretty comfy, toes flat. I wear a thin sock in the larger size which is nice for a bit of extra comfort, tend to use them for longer/easier things. I don't think there's really a massive difference in performance between the two tbh.

They start off very stiff, but do definitely soften quite a lot, which is a little annoying.

Edit to add: I also have some muira velcro for hard stuff, pretty sure they're a couple of sizes smaller the tc pros. Don't have them to hand right now, but I think there's something like 2.5 EU sizes difference.

Would agree with Fellover's comment on the muira sizing

It was actually the Banana Fingers size calculator I used and I think I've either misused it or it's not accounting for the difference between a comfy shoe and a performance shoe. The Rock and Run one seems to be more in line with what people are saying.

The only thing I remember is the slingshot rand really pinched my achilles after prolonged use. I think must be a common complaint as I’ve seen instructions on how to cut small vertical slits in the slingshot either side of the heal to reduce this

Another data point, but from someone with a wide forefoot.

I'm street shoe 43ish (tx guides in 43.5).

I wear testarossas for single pitch sport in 40 or 40.5.

I've got a pair of version 1 tc pros in 41.5 and they're all day comfy. I fine tune the fit with the laces. Basically keep them quite loose on the forefoot for easier pitches, and then cinch them up for harder pitches. This makes quite big difference to how comfy they are, and I find they climb better loose than most other shoes, i.e. they resist rolling even when not cinched. Obviously they climb even better tight, but then my feet hurt sooner.

Not sure if the fit has changed massively between v1 and V2.

I agree with Will. I wear Miura VSs in a 40 for single and multi pitch Lakes routes and most of my sports climbing. I got TC Pros in a 41 for Alpine routes, but they are still a bit tight. I should have probably got 41.5s. (For reference I wear 42 La Sportiva Mutant running shoes.)

In reply to DaveHK:

Sadly I can't help with comparisons to any other LaSportiva shoes, as they don't seem to work for me...

But, I have a set of the MKII TC Pros (and had a set of the first version).

I bought the first version marginally too big (totally flat toes in both feet) and soon found them a touch sloppy.

With the MKII, I had them sized almost exactly as you say, just a smudge under flat toed. After 2 weeks use in the bugaboos and elsewhere (so probably 2k+ of climbing) the had bagged out a bit and we're a touch sloppy on harder pitches (5.11+ /E3/4) and my mate suggested socks.

SOCKS YOU SAY? Crazy talk. Worked a charm. Just a thin pair of merino liner type socks, great for all day comfort with only a tiny loss of sensitivity.

I'd say stick with your 42.5, but you'll probably be ok with 43. 43.5, imo, will be too big.

I can't remember my size and am busy travelling so can't check right now.
