Again this is meaningless unless the time frame is specified.

In reply to Tobs at work: put it back
 clams 07 Sep 2004
In reply to JohnBoy:

Yes.

What's done is done (yet another controversial action in British climbing).
 tobyfk 07 Sep 2004
In reply to JohnBoy:

Yes

At least until a reasonable number of people have repeated it in its aid-free state. ie some consensus beyond RT rabble-rousing has been established.

Yes. Leave it as it is for at least 6 months
 Marc C 07 Sep 2004
In reply to JohnBoy: Replace it.
 The Bantam 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Marc C:

He shouldn't have removed it, but putting it back is just daft.
 Marc C 07 Sep 2004
In reply to The Bantam: Well it may be daft...but Lord Elgin removed the marbles and I'm sure the Greeks don't think it would be daft to replace them in their original location!
In reply to Marc C:

Actually the chockstone could be put back and then the whole climb sealed off from climbers, as a work of art on a par with Stonehenge or the Elgin Marbles. Tourists and old-school climbers would flock to gaze at that famous chockstone, I'm sure.
darkinbad 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Marc C:

Perhaps we should put the Elgin Marbles into RE and send the chockstone off to Greece.

As I understand it, the marbles are quite thin so should stack nicely in the crack, converting it into a high quality hand and finger jamming extravaganza.
 Marc C 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Gordon Stainforth: I can only voter on the proposals put before me Gordon. If you wish to table the motion 'that the Right Eliminate Chockstone be replaced and the whole climb be sealed to create a work of art' then I would vote 'yes' to this.

Ps As I'm sure you would. Having witnessed you climb, I am always struck by your respect for the rock as a living work of art - something so sacred that you can hardly bear to remain in contact with it

PPS Sorry. I swore to Jude vthat I wouldn't make any comments about your climbing ever again
 Marc C 07 Sep 2004
In reply to darkinbad: Brilliant idea. Post the proposal and I'm pretty sure the overwhelming majority of right-thinking RT'ers will assent to this eminently sensible idea.

Ps Don't you think the flake of Right Unconquerable is 'wasted' where it is - and would be much more use if wrenched off and glued on at the top of Parthian Shot?
In reply to Marc C:

That's right, you've got it. Much of my climbing has mmore in common with conceptual art ...

Meanwhile I've noticed that you tend to turn yourself into 'a work of art' when you're climbing, with the help of blood and rope burns etc. And if that doesn't draw enough attention to yourself you then resort to nudity.
 Marc C 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Gordon Stainforth: Well spotted. Michaelangelo's 'David' and Francis Bacon's tortured portraits are among the works I admire - and seek to emulate in my 'rock-art performances'.
In reply to Marc C:

I was thinking more of some of those grotesque paintings of Saint Sebastian.
 Marc C 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Gordon Stainforth: Yes, that was a strange incident wasn't it? Why the heck would anyone suddenly decide to shoot arrows at me as I climbed up Damascus Crack?

PS Arrows with scrolled messages wrapped around their shafts, saying 'Die Woker's Mum'?
OP JohnBoy 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Marc C:

Marc, Gordon would you mind taking this somewhere else?

 Marc C 07 Sep 2004
In reply to JohnBoy: Sorry John ! But don't forget I voted 'yes'! As Gordon's guardian ad litem, can I vote 'yes' for him too?
In reply to JohnBoy:

To be serious now (sorry), I'm actually going to vote 'yes' i.e. don't put it back, at least for a while, until people have climbed it and reassessed it.
 Marc C 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Gordon Stainforth: I voted to put it back. Is that a yes or a no? Help me!
In reply to Marc C:

It's a yes on the other thread, not this one, Marc!
OP JohnBoy 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Gordon Stainforth:

Hallelujah....!
simon carr 07 Sep 2004
In reply to JohnBoy:

yes, replace it
 Marc C 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Gordon Stainforth: Am I being dim (no comments!), but why do we need 2 threads, rather than a simple 'Replace RE chockstone? Yes or No' thread ?
In reply to Marc C:

I think it's so that simply by the number of postings on each thread you can see at a glance how the voting's going (providing people don't make comments .. like this!)
 Duncan Irving 07 Sep 2004
In reply to JohnBoy:

Yes, do not replace

In reply to Gordon Stainforth: except a lot of people are posting inthe wrong thread!

yes, dont replace it
In reply to JohnBoy:

yes, leave it aht.
 Bill Davidson 07 Sep 2004
In reply to Gordon Stainforth: Tut, tut, sarcasm Gordon?

Yes
In reply to Bill Davidson:

No, sarcasm at all when I gave my serious opinion and vote, though earlier I had been involved with some rather complex irony re the Elgin Marbles with Marc.
In reply to JohnBoy:

*bump*

come on chaps, what's happened to the 'no' campaign?
Anonymous 10 Sep 2004
In reply to Just Another Dave:
It's been outdone by those who want it back in!

In reply to JohnBoy:

No he shouldn't - keep it free
