BCAA recommendations (vegan friendly)

Hey, looking for suggestions from the hive mind,

I'm looking to add in some BCAAs, it's something I'm not fully convinced on but as I don't eat meat I am aware they could be lacking, just reading ROAR which is about nutrition for women and she really suggests to add them in. While my training is very repetitive I thought I might be able to observe any positives/negatives or nothing happening a bit more objectively.

Just wondering if anyone has tried any vegan friendly BCAA which don't taste totally minging.

Thanks in advance

Em

I’d suggest a vegan ‘full’ protein rather than BCAA’s

Hi Emily (I think I climbed with you and Esther at Trollers last year?).

I'm with Victoriacake on this one, a full protein powder seems to make better sense. I can recommend the Bulk Powders Vegan Blend in vanilla You can order little sample sachets too. Avoid anything with Pea protein in they taste grim!

Also there's some good info here:

For the benefit of the uninitiated, what on earth are BCCAs?

Nobody knows!   But BCAAs are Branched Chain Amino Acids.

Don't bother - BCAA's are at best a waste of money and at worst can actually have a catabolic effect.

Have a listen to this podcast which will explain a lot! http://climbsci.com/cast/01-protein/?fbclid=IwAR30nbhOBMh9iHMiG3CMft4yT6Guj...

In reply to MischaHY:

Ah yes I wondered what Tom said about it, his podcasts are so long I didn't want to listen to the whole thing again haha (although they are brilliant and I tell everyone else to listen to him!)  Maybe I should listen again as there is time these days

Ok thanks everyone I'll do a bit more reading. I already use a protein supplement but it doesn't have them in so I will look at "whole" vegan protein for when I'm due a top up.

Hey John!

Yes we did! Lovely little crag have you read ROAR? Be interested to see what you think? I agree pea protein is minging,  a lot of vegan protein is minging at the moment I've got protein works vegan blend which is nice but maybe not "whole". I'll check that link out thanks

Protein powder, such as whey, is considered a "complete" protein, meaning it contains all the essential amino acids your body can't produce on its own. This means it contains BCAAs. So if you’re already supplementing it might just be a case of increasing the amount or looking at the timing of when you’re taking it for the best affect. Hope that helps

I've not read it sorry, just had a flick through a friends copy and it certainly gets good reviews. Have to catch up on a crag when this is all over
