I was looking in the databases to find a climbing wall in Bedford. Can anyone tell me anything about the Alexandra Centre? Any other place to climb near Bedford? I haven´t got a car, so I have to move by bus or train.
Thanks

Bouldering on the old Bromham bridge. The village is bypassed, but the bridge is at the Biddenham/Bedford end of the village and is made of rough cut stone with a series of arches. Obviously over the actual river would prove difficult, however it has several arches over a water meadow which is acessable for much of the year. I used to use this many years ago, not sure what local people/farmers would say now. Just use a bit of common sense, don't leave too many chalk marks etc.
There is an indoor wall somewhere in the Hillgrounds Estate in Kempston just outside of Bedford.
Otherwise it's just using your imagination, a spot of buildering.
Or get to the M1 and hitch up to the Peak.

Could you tell anything about climbing in Milton Keynes. Maybe, in two months I will go to the University of Cranfield, and I´m trying to find places to live/climb near it. Thanks

MK? Went to the Escape ski/climb centre recently and was disapointed with just the two walls only single storey high...

unless the rest of the climbing cnetre was hidden!

In reply to karrina: That is all there is, and you have to pay £10 for 30 minutes only too. If you have no transport, your best option is too get the train in to london once a week and climb at the westway or castle, or if you can get to stony stratford, there is a MK climbing club that meet in a pub there, shoul dbe able to help you with lifts

In reply to karrina:

not much in the way of walls round Bedfordshire - there are a couple of school walls that allow public access.

Sharnbrook School (nr Bedford)- featured resin wall with bolt ons.

Cedars School (Leighton Buzzard) - plywood pannels with bolt ons.

Both are ok(ish)but with poor route setting, but both are miles better than either Alexander Sports Hall or the Kepmston Wall - both in bedford.

As Hamish says, the premier Bedford bouldering venue is indeed Bromham Bridge.

Otherwise, you have to travel for the best walls. Depending on where you are in the county, this means either Amersham, The Castle or Warwick University - all about 1 hours drive.

Herts Uni wall (Hatfield Campus) is also within range, but its not a patch on the others.

Cotoclon,

Hadn't checked your response or JG for ages, sorry for the delay. I grew up in Cranfield, so this info may not be right up to date but on my last visit to my folks a guy was building a wall in one of the university buildings behind the School of Mechanical Engineering. Forward me your email if you do end up at Cranfield and I will try to get the details of who is running it and the building it is in. Otherwise the University is only 3 miles from J14 on the M1, so getting to the Peak/London isn't too bad.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your answers.
Hamish, if I go to Cranfield I'll send you an email.
Thanks again.
