Hi All

I've been looking for a discussion on the recent failure of a Fixe Y hang. Following the recent failure and the DAV report and BMC and Abc statements.

Please can someone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Hi Sorry maybe I should explain further.

In 2015 a Fixe Y hang failed due to SCC on the first manually welded link off the bolt hanger. Guidance was to fit a maillon to by pass this link.

Recently a second link failed. Implying all links may be susceptible to SCC. DAV, BMC, ABC released statements on this.

See:

DAV: https://www.alpenverein.de/bergsport/sicherheit/warnhinweise/update-zum-sic...

Fixe: http://www.fixeclimbing.com/fixe-comments-to-safety-issue-with-anchor-chain...

Does this help?

In reply to Gary 4nill:

Plenty of discussions online between professionals involved in this area, and for many months before this particular incident. However, all the stuff I've been reading is in closed forums.

It's a bit of a catch 22.

If you are in the climbing industry and really need to know about this, you already will. If not, you should probably be referring to a technical advisor who does.

Sorry I can't help, but this might explain why you've not found much online.

Probably worth reading some of this thread too which also also refers to Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC), A2 steel and bolts breaking...

Thanks for that. There is not much comment or discussion on this.
