What was it? I hadn't really heard about this until the other week but cannot seem to find the results of the investigation that was supposed to have occured.

Some rumours still surround this incident and I was wondering if it had been cleared up.

In reply to FreshSlate:

A full investigation was carried out by Stockport Health and Safety and can be summed up as such-

‘From the evidence gathered the conclusion I have reached is that the rope came down from the anchor point due to becoming detached from the climbers harness’

If any further information is required please PM me direct.

Faulty equipment or faulty tying in?

Reference to the harness seems to indicate that it's something the climbing pair should have spotted (worn equipment or incorrectly tied knot) rather than an issue with the wall equipment.

These are the questions that are important and the whole climbing community should examine them closely to help future accident prevention.

I'm also involved in SCUBA diving and I have to say that my experience of climbers is very much a 'bury your head' in the sand mentality. I don't really understand the mentality that if you don't discuss these thinge they won't happen again. In SCUBA we tear every accident to pieces and learn everything we can from it in order to help stop it happenning again.

We don't try to sweep these sort of things under the carpet, that's a very unhealthy attitude. Look up the work of Shek Exley for examples.

This is the sort of thing I'm talking about. Accidents should be discussed in public, not private.

Agreed. It's important for the whole climbing community that the full results of the invstigation are made public. The short summary extract given by the wall isn't helpful and just encourages specultion.

Please contact Dave as he suggests, or direct this question to the BMC.

UKC is not the place for speculation on this sort of thing.
