Hi all,

I'm going to take my 15 yr old daughter to one of these esteemed venues this weekend - which would you say is the best for a beginner, and which is the least grotty?

Hopefully the answer to each question is the same.

Cheers,

Lex

In reply to lex: nwf have good climbing courses. are you spa qualified? if not, you could have difficulties.

In reply to Andrew Emery: Eh? I have seen hundreds of proud fathers belaying their kids at indoor walls. I am sure they don't all have SPA training etc. Warrington is slightly bigger than Rope Race, but if you want to scare someone, those big walls at Rope Race are amazing (as far as indoor walls are concerned)

There is new one opening up in Fallowfield after Xmas - apparently!

Ive only been bouldering at NWF but its quite a nice place and pretty big etc, although pretty expensive IMO. Never been to the other one.

John Dunne supposed to be opening a wall in Ardwick, I'm pretty sure there is nothing planned for Fallowfield.

In response to the OP, they would both do for a beginner, NWF does tend to get very bust which I guess might be intimidating to a 15 year old girl.

Thats going to be a bit distracting then - I want to concentrate on my daughters safety.... maybe Roperace would be better and NWF for another day...

Cheers all,

In reply to lex: Drive a little further and go to Awesome. Don't be put off by the name, there is some Awesome climbing, but it also has, probably more really easy stuff than the other walls you have considered.

In reply to lex: Climb Rochdale has lots for beginners including plenty of bouldering of all standards and angles. We also run a popular Rockhoppers Club for children 6-16 yrs and we are happy to let parents bring in their children under their supervision. www.climbukltd.com

Been to both NWF and Rope Race. Deffinitely NWF for beginners, as there are more easy climbs. Good easy slabs to start your daughter off.
In reply to Removed User: There were good slabs at Rope race last time I was there. Was three years ago though. Must go back and do the pea pod thing.

In reply to stonedonkey: awesome is more spacious and a little nicer than nwf. I always feel a bit jammed in at nwf.

In reply to Richard Bradley: went to rope race for the first time the other day and although it doesn't look that spectacular the routes are superb-really interestingly set. Just remember that the grades are english tech and don't try and warm up on a 6a!
they have lots of top ropes up on a fri night(i think) as they have lots of younger people there that night.

I have a wall in my garage, regularly set problems, tea and coffee available, matress landing but girls have to be 16 or above I'm afraid :-D

Agreed. The Pinacle is a superb feature for beginers and the other walls have lots to offer as well. Lots of kids groups/parties use Awesome as it's well set up for them.
