Hi, climbed at the new wall last night as a non member and paid almost as much in parking cost. It used to be free in evenings, but no longer.  3 1/2 hours parking at £4.80 and I see an extra pound to use the wall which in my opinion was not as good as other wall's in the area.

Cant say I'm keen to go back there which is a shame as used the old wall regularly for many years.

Why is the university decided to add all these charges? It's not as if they need the money

....And now  a bit too far from the free three hours at Tesco .

do they charge you to park your bicycle?

only £1.20 a person parking if you fill your car.

Based on the amount of new buildings that have gone up on campus in the last 5 years, I don't think the University is short of a few quid.

That's a shame about the high extra cost for the new wall, I used to really enjoy Bear Rock and although I don't live in the area any more, I'm disappointed to hear the new wall is living up to it's low expectations in several ways, it's a real shame.

Perhaps we should ask them to make the price £4.40 to bring it in line with other walls in the area.

Edit to add: I would say in its defence that the new wall is not really much worse than what we had before, and obviously the bouldering is considerably better for the general punter.

Which other walls in the area?

There aren't any walls we go to that we have to pay for parking.

I meant reduce the price of entry such that entry + parking comes to ~ £8, which is roughly the total I pay for a session anywhere else.

perhaps that is the exact reason as to why they are now short of a few quid!

reminds me of a conversation I had with my kids not so long ago:

“Dad can I have £xxx to buy x, y and z”

”no I can’t afford it”

”but you’ve just bought a new motorbike”

”yes, that’s why I can’t afford it”

Someone I know went there the other day and apparently you can get free parking if you register your car. Or so he thought - he had already paid! Worth checking.

They were just doing that as a gesture as the centre was newly opened.

I'm hoping the car park system wasn't working properly as I registered my number but managed to enter the wrong one as I was using my wifes car
