Does anyone have any more up to date info on iceclimbing around Fernie in the Canadian Rockies please? I imagine a little more must have been done since the 2002 Waterfall Ice guide?

This is a good place to ask, and you could do worse than to email the moderator directly:

You could try emailing Joe Josephson from:

http://rmbooks.com/books/joswat.htm

but I understand he lives in the US these days, and may not be watching developments.

There are some near Fernie in bull river canyon, IVish, need to rap in. Also some up a logging road across the valley from the ski hill (or so I was told by locals) but never managed to find them. The latest edition of waterfall ice will be available from rocky mountain books and definitly there's been a couple of editions since 2002! also try CMC website for info..

Just go on gravsports-ice.com and ask Eric Hoogstratten.

PS Fernie is west of the divide and gets "Big Dumps" (twice or more the snowpack of Canmore area) and so most ice climbs must be done early season or you have to have a sled to approach up the 20-30kms of snowed in logging road
