Which is the quickest way up to CIC hut on The Ben, is it quicker to come in fron the distilery or from the hostel in Glen Nevis. Have walked in the hostel before but was wondering if we could save a bit of time by coming in from the distilery. Thanks in advance Russell.

North Face car park. Follow path up through woods. 1.5-2 hours.

In reply to Russell Lovett: If it's a choice between the two, I'd say that the Glen Nevis approach is quicker. Park at Achintee (Ben Nevis Inn), up the path to the halfway lochan, then cut across to the Allt a' Mhuilinn/CIC on a pretty rough path. 50 minutes to the lochan, 45 to the CIC Hut.

Ideally though, park a car at the Torlundy North Face car park, and follow the new excellent (but brutal) path all the way up along the Allt a' Mhuilinn. 1hr 20 minutes to the hut.

If you're carrying climbing kit plus food plus hut gear then Caspar's estimate is way closer than wee jamie's!

We were up there with overnight gear in January, took us 90 mins on a clear path to the CIC and 20-30 mins to cross the burn!

What you need to do is catch the train to Corrour Halt and walk in from there. Up the glen past Luibeilt, along the watershed and down Glen Nevis to Steall, over the CMD arete, down the other side, and Bob's your uncle.

Quick? Time will absolutely fly

30 kg! that sounds a bit much, I've never weighed my pack for winter climbing but I very much doubt it weighs anything like 30 Kg.

IMO Cycling could be an option if you could be sure that your bike was secure where you leave it.

In reply to gethin_allen: I take a lot of food to eat at the CIC! 30 kilos is probably an exaggeration however!

Ahh, I didn't think about the fact you could be staying at the cic hut.

Using no more energy than you would normally and no mechcanical machinery or fossil fuels to get you to the CIC is easier than you'd think. Learn how to walk in stilts. Start off with some shortie plasterers stilts and eventually move up to the carnival type high ones. Once you are high enough that your normal un-stilted stride is doubled in stilts and you can walk on broken ground with them, you will use the same ammount of strides to get to the CIC but as they are double your normal stride length, you'll get there in half the time.
Although stilts have already been invented, I think there will be a market for some long trekking poles, like 5 sections instead of the normal 3 sections. I've wrote to the dragons den about this but I haven't heard back yet. I've a feeling that they jump on my idea as they are still reeling about knocking back the she-wee so I reckon they want to get into the outdoor scene as they know there is money here. {I hope I get James Khann, I like his cheeky smile}

Great plan, really. Time for some bad news, James Caan has left dragons den! You might want to just scrap it or as opposed to getting Duncan Bannatyne as your dragon.

thats why I haven't heard anything then. Bannatyne can flip off, he'd rather us walk and climb in his gyms than invest in something than would take us away from them. It'll have to be the grumpy old woman then

Apart from that: North Face car park is standard and best. Cheers to Alan Kimber & Co for the new path!
