I take it you are a newbie and have not looked at the climbing history of the UK?

In reply to nz Cragrat:

Where would one find this history of UK climbing?
 nz Cragrat 29 Nov 2007
In reply to iceox:

There are a myriad of sources ... a good read on Ben Nevis (one of the Norrie Muir stomping grounds) is Ken Crocketts book.

Maybe because I was climbing just a bit later than they were doing things it was their names in Mountain Magazine and other books - this was pre-internet remember - an that was in NZ so I am sure you can find a few sources Alpine Journal, SMC etc

In part

He has now 'had his day' though, and thus prefers spending time on internet climbing forums, flaming other users for no obvious reason other than apparent self satisfaction. A poor and undignified way for a legend to 'fade to grey'.

Thats a bit rough???

I think he gives out what people deserve... mostly ;0

As for Gordon Stainforth, he was president of the Cambridge Union in Lent Term 1816.

He was also the first Old Alleynian to exceed 400mph in a plane.

In reply to Norrie Muir:

How about feeding drips of information into Wikipedia Norrie to get some of the others minds working so the history is added to of Scottish climbing?

Hope you have a good season, whatever you do.

No, that was my great uncle, George Stainforth. Further details here:

And, yes, I was President of the Cambridge Union in a previous incarnation

In reply to Tim Chappell: Sorry old bean but i think Iceox was asking who Gordon Smith of the Jorrases fame was. As it has been him & Norrie jokingly shooting across each others bows on a number of other threads.
