Climbing Wall Supervisor/Instructor

Climbing Wall Supervisor/Instructor, Full time, Permanent

About Calshot

This is a Fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic climber to join the climbing wall team at the South's Premier Outdoor Centre. The climbing wall at Calshot is one of the largest in the country with well over 1200 square metres of wall, which combined with its location in one of the largest activities centres in the country makes this a unique position.

The climbing wall is open to the public on a daily basis as a 'pay and play' facility. We also run a wide range of climbing courses, from beginner sessions for 4-7year olds to adult learn to climb courses and youth climbing clubs to Climbing Wall Instructor & Rock climbing Instructor training and assessments.

The centre as a whole offers residential and non-residential courses in an unrivalled number of exciting water and landbased activities. Situated in a unique position on the shores of the Solent, our magnificent setting gives immediate access to the country's most popular watersports location. Ashore, historic hangars accommodate the state of the art climbing complex plus the only indoor Velodrome in Southern England and a dry Ski Slope. The range of activities taught at the Centre includes Canoeing, Dinghy Sailing, Windsurfing, Powerboating, Downhill Skiing, Snowboarding, Rock Climbing, Track Cycling, Mountain Biking, Archery, Orienteering, High Ropes, Field Studies and Development Training.

Our Client Base

Our recreational climbers and course members come to us from a large catchment area, many regularly travelling 20+ miles to get to us. We also pick up many climbers who have been rained off from Swanage and Portland.

The residential clients come from a diverse background. Hampshire school groups account for the largest numbers. We also actively market to out of county schools, currently we have schools from as far a field as the Channel Islands, Home Counties and the Midlands.

Individuals and families from the local area and on holiday in the New Forest can come along to our new 'The hangar' Pay and Play facilities including Aero trek, Takeoff, Laser climb and Ringo's.

The Staff

The wall has a team of full & part time staff covering wall supervision, instruction, equipment checks and route setting. The centre as a whole has around 40 full-time teaching staff in addition to a further 35 support services staff who provide us with food, accommodation, technical and admin support and without whom we could not exist. This strong staff team enables Calshot to operate fifty + weeks a year, seven days a week and is the Centre's greatest resource. From Windsurfing Trainers, Dinghy and Kayak Coaches to Mountain Instructors and Track Cycling coaches, we have them all. Consequently, we are able to offer staff an unrivalled opportunity to benefit from their expertise, whether as part of training or through "top tips" when out playing after work!
