Climber Mick Fowler has plenty of experience of dealing with adversity, both on many expeditions, and during his more recent response to cancer. Mick has shared some of his thoughts with Berghaus, which are collected on their community site.

He has also recorded a short video while at home, with some lockdown suggestions for outdoor enthusiasts:

Mick Fowler is my kind of sponsored climber. I enjoyed that a lot.

I also notice he's rocking a pair of Unparallel Laces, so he has fine taste in rock shoes too.

Dear UKC,

I'm appalled that you can condone this.

In the article Mr Fowler can clearly be seen traversing a stone wall thus putting himself at serious risk of badly splitting a tip, the thought of the drain on elastoplast supplies needed to fix Mick's pinkie at a time like this is sickening.

Also, what if the postman were to see him - climbing's reputation would be ruined, a serious alpinist caught bouldering on his house like this.

Might I suggest having a word with the French and getting him banned from the piolet d'or. That'll teach him for sensibly enjoying himself, if I can't traverse my house I don't see why anyone should be allowed to.

Yours,

Disgruntled in middle England

I like the comment that mountaineers are used to sitting out storms in the confines of a tent so we should cope well with lockdown.

I'm almost thinking of it as belaying for a long time, and eventually we'll get to climb.

Blimey, how slowly do the people you climb with climb!
