Role: Climbing Centre Manager

Reporting to: CEO / co-founder

Salary: £26,000 - £32,000 dependent on experience

Overview

As well as a fantastic bouldering facility, Yonder houses a fully equipped co-working space and workshop, yoga studio and cafe-bar. A space for people to work, play, create, and unwind, providing a focal point for all aspects of the local community. We are a dynamic and tight knit team who work hard together to make Yonder a world class facility. We are passionate about supporting and building our community of climbers through the provision of excellent facilities, exceptional customer service, hosting a variety of fun and inspiring events, and creating a vibrant community spirit.

The Climbing center is the largest element of Yonder in terms of floor space, turnover and staff. The smooth running of the climbing centre is therefore pivotal to the success of Yonder as a whole.

Yonder has three key business areas, Climbing, Yoga and Workspace. Each has its own manager which along with the CEO forms the Senior Leadership Team (SLT). The SLT work together to make key decisions within the business and ensure all areas of Yonder are successful and working in synergy.

As Climbing center manager you will be responsible for the safe and efficient running of the climbing centre, managing relevant projects and developing our offer and customer base. We are looking for a candidate with good experience in the industry and somebody who is enthusiastic about having a positive impact on the business.

Responsibilities

The running of the climbing centre:

  • The overall performance and safety of the Climbing centre.
  • Developing and managing our coaches and our coaching offering.
  • Oversee our Head route setter to ensure our climbing offer is world class and relevant to our customer base.
  • Monthly reporting on the Climbing performance
  • Careful management and conservation of costs, resources and expenditure especially staff hours
  • Managing our entry and booking software, RGP.
  • Ensuring all centre operations are adhered to, and all reporting procedures are completed within the required timescales.
  • Leading all aspects of recruitment and training for the climbing centre as well some elements of HR (with support from our HR advisor).
  • Writing and managing the rota

Front of House

  • Ensure that front of house is run efficiently and smoothly with the support of our Reception Manager
  • Maintaining excellent standards of customer service and ensuring all facilities are clean and well kept.
  • Leadership
  • The management, development and welfare of all Climbing centre staff
  • Line managing 11 staff including The Reception manager, Duty managers, Coaches and Reception staff.
  • Actively contribute to the SLT conversations and represent the climbing centre and its staff on the SLT
  • Developing
  • Updating and improving our policies and procedures and centre H&S
  • Improving our systems, checks and overall operations
  • Support the wider development of Yonder and its counterparts

Experience and Knowledge

Essential:

  • Experience working in the climbing industry in a supervisory role
  • Knowledge and experience of working with and managing climbing coaches and associated processes and H&S requirements.
  • Good knowledge of climbing best practice and current industry standards
  • Experience of working in a team, able to contribute their ideas effectively, constructively challenge others and support the consensus.
  • Be commercially minded and customer focused

Desirable / nice to have but not essential:

  • Knowledge of RGP software
  • First aid qualification
  • CWI, RCI or relevent coaching qualification

Selection Process

Selection will be based on application and interview. Interviews will be informal and designed to get the best out of you. We will test the criteria listed in the requirements section. We will send more information about the structure and format of the interview out to those we plan to interview.
