How refreshing to see a job advert that's fully up-front about the salary in the first line, (rather than, as so often the case, just saying "competitive" or "subject to negotiation") and includes a link to an informative article by a current post-holder. Would encourage me to apply if I was interested in returning to work at 74.

Does the council have responsibility for maintaining the hard structures like stiles or is that down to the landowner? I've contacted Lancashire CC several times and they seem to have acted quite quickly when a stile I've encountered has been broken. It's useful that they have their email address on the little RoW signs! One of the worst places for poor upkeep of stiles etc is the Abbeystead Estate, owned by the Duke of Westminster, one of wealthiest people in the country.

Gates and stiles across PROWs are the responsibility of the landowner to maintain in law, with the council obliged to contribute at least 25% of the costs incurred. Many PROW officers rightly conclude that the best way to deal with the odd loose stile step or wobbly gate latch is to do the job themselves when they go to check out the enquiry they've had about it
I've done my time working in the cold and wet. Too old and soft now.
