Durham Climbing Centre offers high quality climbing experiences for people of all ages and abilities in the North East. As indoor climbing continues to rise in popularity, we are excited to expand our team to help foster a welcoming, safe, and energetic environment for climbers. From beginners to seasoned athletes, we provide a welcoming and supportive environment with a variety of climbing programs, including coaching, group events, birthday parties, and school holiday camps. As a growing business with climbing at its heart, we pride ourselves on delivering excellent customer service and creating a strong community atmosphere. We are looking for a Centre Manager to lead our team and ensure the continued success and development of the Centre.

Role Overview:

As the Centre Manager at Durham Climbing Centre, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Centre. This includes managing a diverse team, ensuring high standards of service and safety, and developing new business opportunities to drive growth. You will take charge of the leadership and direction of all departments, from coaching and reception to café operations and general customer service. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a passion for climbing, and a commitment to providing a high-quality experience for our customers. You will be expected to carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with your main duties.

Reporting to: the Directors.

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience in managing a team within the leisure or climbing industry, with a focus on customer service and operational management.
  • An understanding of the climbing industry and the ability to manage all aspects of a Climbing Centre.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
  • A track record of driving business growth through customer acquisition, community engagement, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial management, KPIs and cost control.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Experience in a similar role within a leisure or sports facility, particularly a climbing Centre.
  • Experience with retail and product sales, including managing stock and supplier relationships.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to manage customer relationships effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, booking software, and general IT systems.
  • A passion for climbing and a desire to promote the sport within the community.

Desirable:

  • Coaching or instructor qualifications in climbing (e.g., CWI).
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards within a leisure or climbing setting.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to management with a willingness to get involved in all aspects of the Centre's operations.
  • First Aid certification
