Job Purpose
The Showroom Climbing Centre is Lincolnshire's premier climbing facility, serving over 500 regular attendees and fostering strong partnerships with local schools and businesses. We are seeking a dedicated Head Route Setter and Supervisor to support the manager in developing and growing the centre by meeting current demand and expanding our offerings to better serve the local community.
In this role, you will manage and perform route setting, creating engaging and entertaining climbing routes suitable for all ability levels. You will also oversee and perform maintenance and safety checks on essential safety equipment to ensure the highest standards of compliance.
Alongside these technical responsibilities, you will contribute to the centre's daily operations, including ensuring adequate staffing, planning and rolling out engaging climbing sessions, and delivering high-quality instruction whilst working closely with the Climbing Wall Manager to ensure suitable stock of products is kept in the inventory.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead the route-setting process at the centre, ensuring a diverse and engaging range of climbing routes for all ability levels.
• Procuring climbing equipment including holds, volumes and PPE for all setting works.
• Proactively monitor the quality of climbing equipment and ensure all necessary items are fit for purpose.
• Ensure the climbing facilities meet the highest recognised safety standards, including conducting regular inspections of the climbing wall structure.
• Assist with the day-to-day administrative duties of the Climbing Centre, including scheduling rotas, managing invoicing, and procuring shop goods.
• Operate and manage the membership software system and electronic point-of-sale equipment, while selling merchandise and other products through the climbing front-of-house service.
• Provide effective induction, support, and guidance to new climbers and those visiting the Climbing Wall service for the first time.
• Deliver safe and professional instruction to the general public during climbing classes.
• Monitor and ensure all customers use the climbing wall and associated equipment safely.
• Understand and uphold all Risk Assessments and Procedures related to the climbing wall, whilst also assisting in the development of these procedures in line with industry trends.
• Report accidents or incidents promptly and in accordance with company procedures.
• Contribute to discussions about service targets and act to ensure they are met.
• Assist in planning and managing events as needed, including those involving the mobile climbing wall.
• Engage proactively in community outreach and maintain strong working relationships with schools, businesses, and the public who use the facilities.
• Maintain positive relationships with other department heads, staff, and volunteers as needed.
• Undertake additional duties as required that are appropriate to the work of The Showroom.
• Work towards achieving the Rock Climbing Instructor qualification if it has not already been attained.
