We are looking for someone to join our climbing team! As part of this exciting role you will actively monitor the climbing area, assist customers with any needs or questions, and promote a welcoming and supportive environment for climbers of all skill levels.
THE ROLE:
Working 35-30 hours per week, as a member of our climbing team, your role is to ensure the safety, enjoyment, and overall positive experience of climbers within our bouldering gym. You will actively monitor the climbing area, assist customers with any needs or questions, and promote a welcoming and supportive environment for climbers of all skill levels. You will be required at times to assist our Front-of-House team in delivering a good experience for all our customers. You will also have the opportunity to help develop customers' climbing skills through workshops and coaching sessions. Your attention to detail and customer service skills will help maintain a safe and engaging atmosphere for everyone.
Climbing Team Members (Bouldering) will primarily work in a dynamic, fast-paced indoor climbing gym environment. The role will require some evenings and/or weekend work.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The exciting stuff
- Customer Support & Engagement: Greet and assist gym members and guests, answering questions about climbing routes, gym rules, and safety practices.
- Encourage Positive Experience: Foster a positive and supportive atmosphere by encouraging climbers, offering tips, and making sure everyone feels welcome regardless of skill level.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other main floor walkers and gym staff to coordinate activities, share observations, and improve the overall customer experience.
- Instructing: Provide Bouldering Induction and workshop sessions as and when booked throughout the day. This position may also require you to step in and take additional NICAS sessions when required.
Not as exciting, but equally important, stuff
- Monitor Safety: Constantly observe climbers to ensure they are using proper technique and equipment. Alert climbers to potential hazards such as improper landings, overcrowded areas, or worn-out holds.
- Maintain Cleanliness & Order: Ensure climbing areas are clean, well-maintained, and free from debris. Keep climbing walls, mats, and surrounding areas organized.
- Incident Response: Respond to and assist in handling any accidents or injuries. Ensure first aid kits are accessible and well-stocked. Report any serious incidents to appropriate staff.
- Safety Briefing: Ensure all new climbers understand and follow safety protocols. Provide briefings on bouldering etiquette and gym rules.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Essential
- Love of climbing: You must love bouldering and be willing to help our customers develop their skills and enjoy making their visits to 270 a positive experience every time.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of customers and team members.
- Climbing Knowledge: Understanding of bouldering techniques, safety practices, and gym rules (previous climbing experience is a plus).
- Problem-Solving: Quick thinking to resolve issues, provide solutions, and assist with any unexpected challenges.
- Customer Service Orientation: Friendly, approachable, and enthusiastic about helping others enjoy their climbing experience.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to spot safety hazards, maintenance issues, and climber needs promptly.
Desired
- First aid and CPR certification
- CWI (Climbing Wall Instructor Award)
- CWDI (Climbing Wall Development Instructor Award)
- Previous experience working in a climbing gym or similar environment
- Good bouldering skill level and ability to impart that knowledge to others
