MADE IN BRITAIN - Rockcity Climbing Holds, one of the worlds biggest climbing hold brands, is now bringing production back to the UK.
Rockcity Climbing Holds has joined the Made in Britain movement, bringing UK climbing hold manufacturing back to its site in Hull.
Since Rockcity started making climbing holds back in 2015, a lot of things have changed. Brexit was the most significant and being reliant on European third party factories to produce plywood volumes added a huge layer of cost and delay to getting materials into the UK.
The supply of plywood volumes is phase one of Rockcity's return to British manufacturing. Rockcity already uses some third party production in Sheffield and Lincolnshire to produce both plywood components and fibreglass parts that are used in the highest level of climbing competitions like the majority IFSC World Cups and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Bringing all of this 'in-house' will bring down cost and speed up production times.
Each volume has the Rockcity proprietary resin texture system, custom made stainless steel inserts and full water resistant coating on all edges and back of the plywood, ensuring a longer life from your new volumes, reducing the long term cost even further. Fully tested to EN 12572:3-2017 and is the UKs only IFSC authorised manufacturer, recommended for use in all the top level international competitions as a Platinum brand.
'This new production allows us to develop new products and technologies faster and exclusively for ourselves, than the delay in waiting for a competitor to decide if and when we get to release anything new is a big step forward for us.
We can also control the cost, bringing our prices down, despite war and inflation increasing both energy and raw material prices over the last few years. Now UK climbing gyms can order from UK stock, avoiding long delays, import costs and higher prices from the continent.
We have already seen a big increase in our plywood sales here in the UK and surprisingly an increase in demand in Europe for 'Made in Britain' goods, due to increased quality and reduced prices.' - Mark English, Managing Director.
With new US tariffs causing havoc to the world's markets and significantly impacting European and Chinese manufactured climbing holds destined for the USA, the move to UK production makes great sense for Rockcity as it continues to partner with USAC as an official sponsor of the IFSC SLC Boulder World Cups.
