Climbing Manager
We are recruiting a Climbing Manager for our Manchester site. If you have a passion for climbing, and the skills and expertise to be responsible for Health & Safety and oversee all aspects of 'Front of House' then we want to hear from you.
Parthian Climbing Manchester are looking for an experienced climbing industry professional to assist the Centre Manager in overseeing all aspects of ‘Front of House’ management and ensure Health & Safety compliance across the facility.

The Role:
Parthian Climbing Manchester is a mixed facility climbing wall, located in the heart of Manchester. The climbing gym offers a large selection of roped climbing lines, auto belays, bouldering and a gym. Parthian Climbing Manchester delivers a large youth climbing scheme as well as a range of progressive courses for adults of all abilities.
The Climbing Manager will take a leading role in ensuring that the facility maintains a high level of professional appearance and operates safely and efficiently. The right candidate would be happy jumping between general climbing centre maintenance, driving the operations of the centre through monitoring the delivery of a range of sessions, and ensuring all facilities including the café and gym are up to standard.
The Climbing Manager will work towards developing Parthian Climbing’s existing offering of courses and ensure the highest standards of delivery across the current instructor team. They will also work collaboratively with the route setting team to ensure all route products and events are delivered to the required specification and meet the company requirements.
The Climbing Manager will also act as the Senior Instructor on site, working with the existing Instructor team to ensure sessions are delivered to the highest quality and within our safety guidelines.
Requirements:
- Have current knowledge of the Indoor Climbing Industry and a forward-thinking attitude in progressing Parthian Climbing’s status as an industry leader.
- Be an experienced indoor climber and hold valid climbing and coaching qualifications (CWI & Foundation Coach essential, CWDI preferred).
- Be a customer focused individual with personable communication skills.
- Have experience delivering training and managing an instructor team.
- Have knowledge and experience of implementing processes and procedures to create an enjoyable and safe environment for staff and customers;
- Be forward thinking in collaborating with the senior team to promote business development.
- Have a flexible approach to responding to issues which may occur outside of working hours (In the absence of the Centre Manager).
- Be willing to engage in business development and have a consistent approach to promoting the centre via marketing channels.
- Be willing to support across all areas of the centre including staff training, instructed sessions and covering the café.
- Be willing to work in a flexible capacity.
- Be willing to work 2 evenings per week and 2 weekend days per month.

Head Setter
We are looking for a Head Setter to join the team at our Manchester site. Working closely with the Centre Manager and Climbing Manager, the Head Setter will be primarily responsible for setting high quality routes and boulders appropriate to our customer base. Alongside our Centre Manager, they will also assist in developing our up and coming in house setters.
Our Manchester site is predominantly a roped climbing centre, with walls up to 22m in height, therefore experience setting from a rope is essential.
We provide a premium climbing experience, underpinned by the highest standards of safety, customer service and positive team engagement.
This role offered as a minimum of 2 days setting per week with occasional need for an additional day.
This role is due to start on the 11/08/25
Requirements:
- Prior experience setting in a commercial wall, for both routes and boulders
- Minimum 2 years' experience commercially setting
- Flexibility with working hours to support the team when needed
- Willingness to get stuck into the less glamorous bits of route setting, washing holds and general maintenance
- Experience of developing an in-house setting pathway to assist in overseeing our in-house setters, including recruiting, training and mentoring
- Current knowledge of the Indoor Climbing Industry, including industry best practises for route setting
- A commitment to our Climbing for Everyone ethos catering for a broad range of clientele

What's the salary range for the head setter role Is it not a requirement of UKC to post it?
Also, For the managerial role asking for experience at 28k for a 40 hr contract is truly awful. That's only 10% above minimum wage for a 40 hour week. Why bother.
I agree it would be helpful to see the salary range for transparency, especially for roles like Head Setter, where responsibilities can vary quite a bit between centres. Also fair point about the managerial salary; for the level of experience and responsibility usually expected in those roles, it does seem quite low. It would be interesting to know how it compares to similar roles at other gyms around the UK.
