Location: Crashpad Climbing Facility, (Malta)
Start Date: 25 August 2025
Employment Type:  Full‑time

About Crashpad

Crashpad Ltd is a brand‑new indoor climbing and community hub opening in late 2025. Our mission is to make climbing accessible, inclusive, and fun for everyone—from absolute beginners to future champions. The Youth Academy is the beating heart of that mission, nurturing confident young athletes and lifelong climbers.

Position Overview

We're seeking a Youth Academy Coach to lead and grow our competitive and recreational youth programs—while also providing bespoke coaching for adult climbers when required. Your main focus will be athlete progression and an outstanding learning experience—guiding kids (ages 6‑17) through structured training while fostering teamwork, resilience, and a love of movement. You'll develop curricula, mentor assistant coaches, and collaborate with route setters to align training with wall design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver training cycles (skill‑based lessons, strength & conditioning, competition prep) for beginners through to elite youth cohorts.
  • Mentor and upskill Assistant Coaches, modelling best‑practice instruction and giving constructive feedback.
  • Track athlete development and communicate progress to parents/guardians via regular reports and feedback sessions.
  • Plan and supervise internal comps, clinics, and community events that showcase youth progress and build club spirit.
  • Ensure uncompromising safety standards—from fall‑zone management to emergency response drills.
  • Contribute to curriculum updates, integrating the latest best practices and national federation guidelines.
  • Deliver adult coaching sessions (1‑to‑1, small group, or other formats) as scheduled by the Course & Programs Director.
  • Collaborate with the Course & Programs Director on budgeting, scheduling, and long‑term academy strategy.

Ideal Candidate

  • Level 2 (or higher) climbing coaching qualification (ClimbMT Level 2 coaching certification, Mountain Training (UK) Development Coach, or equivalent).
  • 1‑2+ years of coaching youth athletes (climbing).
  • Demonstrated success in designing progressive lesson plans and tracking athlete outcomes.
  • A clear, encouraging communication style that connects with kids, parents, and colleagues alike.
  • Current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before start date).
  • Bonus: competition routesetting experience or judging credentials.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Athlete Progression: percentage achieving skill milestones each term.
  • Program Retention: term‑to‑term enrolment and wait‑list growth.
  • Coaching Effectiveness: parent/athlete satisfaction scores & post‑session feedback.
  • Assistant Coach engagement and turnover.
  • Safety record (zero critical incidents, metrics from internal audits).

Why Join Crashpad?

  • Competitive pay plus free climbing membership and staff gear discounts.
  • Play a foundational role in shaping Malta's most exciting youth climbing program.
  • Professional development budget for courses, certifications, and competition travel.
  • Supportive, community‑driven culture where fresh ideas and experimentation are celebrated.
