New Format Book Element to the Festival
This years Kendal Mountain Festival sees a great celebration of mountain writing with a series of events that will make the festival the spiritual home of climbing and mountain writing. If you love books, reading or literature (aren't they all the same thing?) then get yourself along to one of these shows. They all promise an intimate insight into some of the most exciting books around today. Indeed, three of the books featured are shortlisted for this years Boardman-Tasker prize ; as well as one work-in-progress which will surely be a favourite when it appears.
The format for the shows is simple. Authors will talk about their experiences and read from their books. After, there will be on-stage interviews between the authors and a Michael Parkinson-style interviewer, delving into the motivations and ideas of the authors. It will then be thrown open to questions from the audience.
If you've ever wondered about the process of writing a book then these shows will prove fascinating. If you want to see a side of those involved that you seldom get to see in a more conventional lecture, then this is where you will see it. The shows will be interesting, revealing and personal and above all promise to be a lot of fun.
If you fancy coming along you will probably get the most out of it if you have read the book. See each entry for buying information. However, as you are a climber you will most likely not want to part with any cash. In this case there is a link to an excerpt from each of the books featured below.
