We had completed the basic ridge (Gars Bheinn to Gillean) the year before in just under 8 hours. This time we set off from the Sligachan at midnight to climb Glamaig and the Red Cuillin, Marsco, Clach Glas/Blaven and arrive at the summit of Gars Bheinn just before midday, at which time we set off to finish the ridge proper. We got short of water and resorted to begging from the parties hanging around the Inn Pinn but apart from that we had no problems and arrived back at the Sligachan at 22:15, in time for a couple of pints. The weather was perfect although fairly hot and this has since turned out to be my best-ever day in the mountains. We called our route The Sligachan Horseshoe as a bit of a joke but this has been used by others now (Fellrunner magazine). It equates to about 2/3 of a Bob Graham Round, which explains why I only got 2/3 of the way around the BG the following weekend... It appears other parties have had the same idea but this was the first sub-24hrs completion.
