alasdaircavaye 15 Jul, 2018 AltLd O/S Walked from our bivvy up from the Victoria Emmanuel. Freeze level quite high so couloir was probably out of condition, ueed ridge instead. Glacier was crowded and progress was slow. Diverted around queue for summet by pitching a frozen blocky climb. Summit was dangerously crowded, probably 100 waiting to summit. First 4000m and went very well.

Lakesben 4 Aug, 2017 - Left the hut at 3.15am as had heard it could be horribly crowded on the summit. Reached the top at 6.45am and had the place to ourselves which is highly recommended. Got down to the Col before we met anyone else and saw about 100 people slowly snaking their way up the glacier. Back at the hut for 9.30am. Beautiful morning climb.

andrew.tyrrell 11 Jun, 2017 - Stayed at Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele the night before. Set off at 4am. Very easy nav through 'Boulder field' due to footprints in snow. Reached summit scramble at 8:15am, then spent about 45mins queuing for the bolted crux. Insanely busy on top. No wonder the guidebook describes it as "Italian chaos". Abbed down far side of summit and traversed back under rocks. Back to hut by 12:30pm, then continued down to Pont. A glorious weekend!

alex.serban 5 Sep, 2015 Solo dnf started at 2.30am. clear sky and very hot. at the top was a massive queue ( 80+ climbers) after 45mins of waiting decided to turn back a few meter from the summit in order to catch the last bus back to Aosta and my flight. Long and boring rocky/dusty part between the refuge and glacier. Extremely crowded for September. Guides with up to 9 "climbers" on the same rope. Rude, almost to push me of the rocks. And the so called climbers had no experience and very slow.

adrianj 3 Sep, 2015 - Descended this way, after climbing from the Chabod. Unfortunately we did not know that the normal route is now on the ridge. We descended the glacier which is currently very dry and becomes steep ice. We also had to boulder hop through loose morraines and descend some slabby ice-scratched granite rock at the current snout of the glacier. Then picked up very well cairned path back to the hut for a beer.

atthedropofahat 31 Aug, 2015 Lead Excellent conditions. I would advise leaving the hut without breakfast to ensure reaching the summit ahead of the guided groups, we got caught up in the plod and had to wait over an hour without protection while groups pushed past us on the ridge as they descended, not ideal. Currently there are ladders to cross the final begshrund. Unfortunately the true summit is not the madonna! What a shame... we may have to go back...

thomas 11 Jul, 2010 Lead O/S Superb route but very busy (weekend) steady plod up the glacier made good time after a 4-00 am start, Madonna summit first, technically easy climbing, moved together initially but clipped into some fixed gear momentarily after crowds of Italians started rushing about and taking crampons off to climb the rocky bits! Short ab from the large Madonna summit (so as not to backtrack thru the hoards) then easy scramble to the slightly higher summit exhibiting a mini madonna! Not everyone does this summit a few metres further on so much quieter. Brilliant day superb views and an easy 4000 metre summit to boot. Followed by a lovely walk out back to Pont passing the Hut again (Vittorio Emmanuelle hut) on route back.
