An entertaining day out! Took Ali and Conor (both new to winter climbing, it was Ali's first multi-pitch winter or summer) to climb Crypt Route. Slept behind the Kings House the night before, woke to a perfect blue morning. The walk in was less of a slog than I remembered but this was mainly because we had two teams ahead of us breaking trail-to the same route. I didn't fancy standing in line so we went for what promised to be the next best objective (and one with a tunnel too). What the guidebook failed to tell me though was that the tunnel was now blocked by rockfall. P1 was enjoyable but after bringing Ali and Conor and starting to dig it dawned on me that the tunnel was no more. While I could see hooks and some abandoned gear above I didn't know what grade this would go at and decided against launching into the unknown (plus I'd had all the stacked blocks I could stomach for one day). We abbed, walked to the summit and enjoyed a superb glissade back to the snow line. No such thing as a wasted day out in winter.

Great day out, abseiled off the arch for an alternative quick descent

Awesome day out. One really tricky section where rockfall has blocked the old route (on second pitch, went up the groove on the left) - fell onto the rope first time (hence dog) but made it second time around. Rest of the climb much more manageable with one tricky move over a chockstone higher up. On pyb course.

Could do with some more consolidated snow in places as a few lose blocks.

Great fun. Took Graham a while to work out tunnel was blocked. I would guess V,7 for the second pitch.

Interesting digging for the closed off tunnel. Great climbing through the direct route. Great climbing on all the pitches. Full on winter conditions.

"tunnel" is now blocked off, making for a much harder route. unconsolidated snow rather than neve

As said in previous comment, through route on pitch 2 is blocked. Climbed left hand groove on the outside avoiding the dangerous looking blocks on the right. Much harder than grade V this way.

The through route on the 2nd pitch is blocked due to rockfall, so abbed off. There is an alturnative outside the cave, but it looked a lot harder.

Pretty snowy conditions but a quality route nontheless- would suggest a grade of V 5 rather than IV 6

Climbed in good condition. Great fun and feels safe. Each pitch has its own character.

Great fun route! Best winter route in years.

Outstanding route, and not another soul on Church Door Buttress. Grading today was probably more like iv,4/5, due to the amount of solid neve about.

Stupendous route, every pitch interesting and varied. Very intimidating traverse across the arch to the chimney on pitch 4.
