Rockfax Description
A long rising traverse in a superb position. Start 10m left of 'A' Route at a spike belay that is to the right of a large flake.
1) 10m. Make a straightforward rising traverse rightwards to a ledge and belay.
2) 20m. Traverse right to the 'Forty Foot Corner' of 'A' Route and follow it to a belay at its end.
3) 20m. Take a right-leading crack to a ledge ('C' Route). Move across to gain the top of the corner on pitch 5 of 'B' Route. Follow the horizontal crack of 'B' Route to the good belay just around the arete - The Crow's Nest.
4) 16m. Pitch 6 of 'B' Route. © Rockfax

CathS 18 Jun, 2016 AltLd O/S I led P1 and P3. Brought the wrong guidebook to the crag so did all the route-finding just using a crumpled photocopy of Steve Ashton's 100 Classic Climbs topo and no route description, which made it a bit more adventurous. Ashton shows a slightly different line to the FRCC guidebook (a bit of Crimson Pirate up a short steep wall to the left of the bottom half of 40ft Corner, for the first pitch). We decided not to continue up the arete to the left of 40ft Corner for the 2nd pitch as per Ashton's Book of Death as it looked very poorly protected (and turns out is a continuation of the 4b pitch of Crimson Pirate...), and went up the upper half of the 40ft Corner instead as per the FRCC, which still has a couple of spicy moves for a VDiff. A really enjoyable route with interesting and varied climbing on great rock and with some stunning exposed positions. Not one to do on a busy day though, as it crosses at least three other routes!

Tony Jones 7 Jun, 2016 AltLd dnf A hasty retreat from the top of second pitch* as thunder rolled in (and just at the point that I dropped my belay device and carabiner down the crag never to be seen again). *Likely that I had wandered off up D route by this point judging by post-climb study of picture in Lake District Rock. Interesting experience.
