Highest lead grade to date! And here's the story. I learnt to second trad at this crag and have seconded this route a bunch of times, but and this is what happened when Alex and I turned up to the crag in the dark, with no guidebook. "No Big Deal" I said, "we'll climb some fun routes - I know some some easy ones", eyeing up Mille Feuille with a knowing look, whilst the cold wild whipped round my belay jacket. How hard could it be? I'd climbed Severes before, and had sworn off them after a bunch of scary experiences, this looked to my naive eye like may a VDiff? I jumped onto lead. The footholds were sweaty. I got a nut in. That was something. My headtorch pressed against the rock as I fumbled for the undercuts and sidepulls. I stepped up. The wind gusted harder and harder. I stepped down. I stepped back up. The wind tried to blow me back. I tried to calm my nerves and go for it, but the wind kept getting louder and threatening to blow me off. I made it to a key fingerhold below the roof. That wasn't enough. It was still possible to fall from here. My legs thrashed... and landed on the bomber lower handhold perfectly. Nice. Relief. I whipped out my cam. Too small. I whipped out my other cam. Also too small. I put both my cams away. I whipped out my nuts and got two opposing nuts. Onwards and upwards! Easy from here! Spoiler: It was not easy. Technically straightforward, but terrifying. Was there gear placement here? Was there fuck! (hindsight: maybe a cam placement possibly?) I got a hand over the top. This wasn't over yet. I was horrifically run out, I couldn't see my feet and everytime I climbed higher, this mantle handhold got less secure. I sweated and went for it. Finally, I made it over the top, and walked over to the trees to set up the belay. Only later, consulting UKC, did I realise this was my highest ever lead grade. Hours before my birthday!

4th VS lead! Lovely route I've wanted to do for a while! Very delicate balancey moves at the bottom and top wth the middle section more straightforward. Mild at the grade, but bold.

Fun route. A great one to drag beginners up to get them thinking about footwork and balance.
