Briefly described in the 1980 first edition of Steve Ashton’s ‘Scrambles in Snowdonia’ in the further scrambling section. The route starts at the base of the rock/heather rib further up the pass from Esgair Maen Gwyn (Scimitar Ridge) at grid ref SH 635 562, the rib can be further identified as it is directly above a slate bridge across the Avon Nant Peris.

Ashton describes the route as variable and not containing much scrambling but the amount of scrambling depends on how difficult you are willing to climb. It’s quite possible to avoid most of the difficulties and have a grade 1 experience with a fair amount of heather bashing but just flanking the steep crags on their slabby sides it is a pleasant grade 2.

The rib ends at an area of hillside at around the 550m contour and from here it is possible to walk eastwards to pick up the Pen-y-Pass track to Glyder Fawr. If you want to prolong the scrambling towards the summit then keep heading north for a few hundred metres where you meet the large crag of Clogwyn Mawr Cwm Cerwyn which has 50-100m of slabby scrambling on both flanks. The summit lies 1km to the Northeast.
