Warm but speedy ascent starting late

Got up late at the bunkhouse but we were walking by 8am although hopes weren't high as it was 6c driving down the road to the carpark. Air temp was -1 at the pap and funnelling wind but once in the corrie it calmed down and hopes didn't rise. Teams heading up to Perseverence Wall but given the wind Cathedral Chimney seemed a safe option. Turf was a little suspect at the start but was generally frozen, and with the rime up on the chimney pitch it looked like it would improve with height. It didn't. Within the hour it took to get into the chimney one wall was verglassed and the other dripping. Wet, dirty, and thin. A really enjoyable line but in today's conditions never a grade III. Thrutchy goodness but no neve or buildup to help made it more technical than I suspect it normally is. Evidence of prior team having bailed from the base of the chimney.

would have been a bit easier with some ice but cool line and nice climb.

As a three with Ali and Steve, lots of snow

Led pitch to cornice. The bit above the bulge is not recommended until some consolidation. Time consuming and difficult cornice exit

Led up to the chimney and the cornice battle afterwards. Usidean took p2. Firm snow in the morning was noticeably softer by the time we topped out. Nice climbing on a super day!

Led Pitch 1, ML 2nd crux pitch. "Scottish" conditions with hill fog above 700m, visibility poor. Lower mixed ground banked out neve. Snow-ice in chimney variable-from crusted slab to solid in places. Snow gully at route top unconsolidated and sketchy wind slab...Interesting! Bold lead by ML on crux. 4.5 hours due to difficulty finding protection. Great day out!

Bold, nearly fell off crux on lead. Craig saved the day...

Boggin condition. Turf okish not fantastic. Would be good climbing in better conditions. Made for a wee duel.

V cold - climbing as a rope of 3 Graham lead throughout. No ice present but bomer turf with any neve iron hard and a bit of fresh dodgy wind slab.

Thrutch-tastic! Very lean with no ice and no useable snow, lots of powder. Turf bomber, thankfully. Superb lead by Ric on the crux!

Not in stellar condition, but turf frozen below a wet surface and ice at back of the chimney. Good fun.

Led upto into the chimney in a long pitch, then Graham lead to the plateau in a second pitch. Good traditional thrutching!

A bit short lived this one. Some good chimney action though - always a pleasure.
