Rockfax Description
A popular, intricate and sustained climb that visits some of the trickier sections of the crag bypassed by the well-trodden VSs. Start below a series of narrow corners just left of a huge flake at the base of the wall.
1) 5a, 26m. Move up cracks to a ledge and make a committing move up right into another small corner. Climb this, and its continuation to a belay at the junction with the red band of rock that crosses the face.
2) 4c, 23m. Traverse right for around 8m to a steep groove. Climb the groove past a black stained hole and an overlap just above to a flake that leads left under an overhang to a slabby bay and a belay at its left-hand side.
3) 5a, 12m. Move back right to the bottom of a wide, rounded flake-crack. Climb the crack strenuously to where it eases and move right to a belay below a leaning corner.
4) 5a, 15m. Climb the leaning corner which is hard but well-protected, to a welcome jug on the left. The top is not far above. © Rockfax

UKC Logbook Description
A lovely route following a series of corners and cracks up the guts of the crag. Start to the left of a hugh flake leaning against the bottom of the crag at an obvious line of cracks and corners to a belay level with the rake. Pitch 2 traverse right here to the shallow groove, up this via a couple of pulls to some welcome jugs. From here a flake leads back leftwards to a belay above the last. The third pitch climbs the obvious rounded crack to the right of the belay and the final pitch follows the short corner to the right having a sting in the tail!

Great first pitch, good lead by Jack. Led the 2nd pitch which was very enjoyable until the awkward traverse under the roof, which put me right off. Got a bit scared so ended up belaying from just after it instead of the larger ledge to the left. Attempted to start up the final pitch, but was too much of a wuss, so came back down and got Jack to finish it. Bit of a desperate move out of the crack.

Led P2 & P4. Got P2 cleanly - stunning climbing, with some space walking moves at the end of the pitch. Make sure to extend your runners properly, the drag lifted a couple of my nuts out on the final traverse. Found P4 really tricky, had to rest on the ropes after my foot popped - it also didn't help that the "crucial" left hand jug was covered in guano! A great climbing experience.

Matt B Ps 1 and 3. Myself, pitches 2 and 4. Matt did well on P1, especially as the slab after the hard pull right was damp. P2 was a great jaunt, traversing left on the big flake was great fun, then got a little spicy as it petered out. P3 needs a bit of psyching oneself up for, but it's OK once you commit. I found P4 very easy, compared to the guidebook's description as 'top end of the technical grade'. You can get both hands on the horizontal flake before you have to step up. A bomber jam follows, by which time you can easily reach a great hold on the left, and scrabble to easy ground. A great route, with 4 varied and worthwhile pitches.

P1 and P3. Matt G. P2 and P4. First and foremost: what a great route! Thought P1 crux move bold. P2 is great again, with a really fun leftward traverse to the belay ledge. P3 is awkward to start but with good pro. And P4 wasn't too bad...thought it fair at 5a and has ample pro if on the smaller side.

Well here goes...We did this as it sounded good, and it would lead us out near/at the top of the 2nd to last pitch of Suicide Wall, as I wanted to finish it off as we backed off a few days ago. Pitch one, I thought should have been E1 5B, tricky move round to the right off the ledge, pitch two Dave backed off as his head wasn't into it, thought this was fair at 4C but top end. Pitch three was a little awkward probably right for the grade but strong pull from ledge. Pitch unless I was completely off route (triple checked the guide book) this was/is the hardest 5A i've ever done to date! (I've done plenty!!) Not trying to go over the top but I thought it was 6a. I ended up getting locked down for 2hours battling it, and just (I hate too, only ever done this twice maybe) had to aid the pitch, on a micro cam for my left foot and a micro brass offset for my right foot! Just couldn't see the moves, as for the thank god hold on the've done the hard moves before you reach this! Has something fallen off?? Just in case people are saying where was he? After pitch 3 on the belay ledge, directly behind the ledge a curving crack goes up right to left gradually in the corner. So the line I was on I would grade E2-5C possibly 6a. Just to mention I lowered down to do the crux pitch of Suicide Wall (5C) before doing this on a slack top rope, and found it ok, nailed it in one no rests/mishaps, came up tried this and LOCK DOWN!! Enough of my moan go do it, and tell me it was severe!! Ridiculous second pruisked up it.

A hard, but very enjoyable climb! Crux slab of P1 is quite bold - very little in the way of gear and you are looking at a fall onto the ledge below. The layback crack on P3 is very pleasant and airy. lead pitches1,3,4. all top quality and great pro. fell at start of last pitch, but doubt I could do clean as fist jam and placing cam required. fantastic route though, every pitch quality.

Led all pitches. Loved it. Really good exposed climbing, though ultimately escapable from the top of 1st and 2nd pitches. Pitch 2 is incredible, jsut be sure to look down when you get up to the big flake as the exposure is something else. The move on the top pitch is quite 3D but not too hard once you realise what to do.

A little more tricky that I had expected although missing a few holds and jamming the rope whilst combining the second and third pitches probably didn't help :-)

Escaped pitch 4 due to rain. A pretty scary route, P1 and P3... neither are easy and P4 looked pretty hard too!

Jane lead the first two pitches as one (I think these are fantastic, and worth 3-stars in their own right) and I lead the last two pitches in one, which is not recommended unless you're very confident as there are a few knarly last moves.

A difficult climb, lobbed off on the second. Had to finish vis another route ~VS as there were two idiots farting around above us. Classic quote "lots of HS leaders have died on that pitch". MOst stupid thing I have ever heard another climber say.
