Crag features

Sheltered and southwest facing makes this a good afternoon /evening venue in the pleasant surroundings of the Jumbles Country Park. The quarry is set amongst trees and waterfalls with an approach of approximately 1 minute from car park or 5 min from Grange Road, which lies behind Bromley Cross Railway Station.

The quarried rock is similar to Brownstones although generally a touch higher and extends for approximately 150m. There are routes from VDiff to E3 and bouldering from V0 to V8. Currently unpolished and potential for further development. The foot of some routes can become a bit boggy after heavy rain. The routes are described from left to right.

Approach notes

Turn left off A676, travelling from Bolton towards Ramsbottom, to the Jumbles Country Park. Walk down the steep path at the back end of pay and display car park (£0.80 for upto 2 hours, £1.30 for over 2 hours) (not working March 2022). Follow the sloping path (slightly left of the steps) down and keep an eye out for the beginnings of the crag behind the fence on the left.

Had a look recently, not sure what the top outs and belays would be like on the trad routes but does have some nice lines. Currently quite overgrown around the bottom in places with those plants that have seed pods that explode if squashed. Ground was a bit boggy in places too. Definite potential though.

Great place in need of more traffic to bring the rock up to its best quality but it is ok in most areas, the roof section offers some good gymnastic style climbing, and other areas offer great technique and balancey moves, all round good venue. and i even climbed here on a real bad rainy day and the rock stays dry Bonus!!!
