On Naked Knees Thrope Edge © Pete Pozman

Crag features

Mostly short, honest, easy routes.  There is also a limited amount of bouldering (which ties in well with other boulders hereabout).  The crag lies just below the moorside edge path near a shooting house. It consists of a gritstone edge about 6 metres in height at its highest point with sections split by easy gullies.

The setting is magnificent with views over the upper Nidd valley and across the the Dales.

Approach notes

The easiest approach is from Thrope Lane (which becomes Trapping Hill) on the Lofthouse - Masham road.  Park as for Sypeland but follow the good track west along a wall to a gate.  Keep going west and you will reach the top of the crag.  If the shooting house with an "R" on it is reached, you've gone too far.

It can also be reached from the Nidd Valley bottom from Thrope Farm and from other footpaths off the Lofthouse - Masham road.

There may be access restrictions during the grouse shooting season usually posted up on road access gates.
