Far Right Outcrop © James Thompson

Crag features

Hidden in the trees within Post Hill, Are 3 separate Gritstone crags left from an old quarry.

There is a mixture of bouldering and single pitch climbing, most with good top outs and flat landings. Most climbs are well protected with plenty of crimpy hand holds and crack lines to follow.

The majority of the climbs are standard bouldering or high ball, some areas may be best done as a single pitch.

The Furthest Right of the outcrops is the best quality with the most climbs, generally dry with clean Gritstone, lots of arêtes and good top-outs. The far left section boasts a good single pitch wall with a number of routes, and with some cleaning up the middle wall of this crag has large overhangs at height giving good hard climbing. The middle of the crags when dry has some easy single pitch routes and a short wall for bouldering.

Approach notes

Access over the metal steps directly on Pudsey road, parking is next to this entrance.

Follow the path down and over the bridge at the bottom. continue up to the second clearing up the small hill. Walk to the top of this larger triangular clearing to the top right hand side where an obvious track will appear, follow this up and take the obvious right path that appears, follow this for 100m until the path bends left and the crag Far left Crag is immediately after the bend. Follow up and left of this crag for the other two outcrops, each around 15/20m apart from the other.

More akin to sandstone but there are some nice lines here. Please take a bin bag and do some community service.

The rock is generally pretty poor but climb to heaven and the arete are worthwhile and on reasonable rock. It should be a beautiful crag as the woods are really nice but unfortunatly its a quarry in west yorkshire so that means empty cans and other rubbish. Worth a quick visit if you live nearby.

Utterly filthy. Ticked off most brands of larger and cider via the disposed cans and broken bottles, however didn't hang around long to do much else. Very overgrown also!

Me and my mates Andrew Sugden, Craig Smith and Mark Phillips climbed here in 1979/80 and did various routes. I have a hand-written topo somewhere still. I also revisited there with my wife Jude Calvert-Toulmin and gardened and climbed some more short problems on the middle and RH outcrops, intending to produce an online topo, but never got round to it. Nice to see it's been rediscovered.
