Crag features

One route can be climbed on a toprope. Good anchors at the top; quite fun to attempt with ice axes because of small pockets but watch out for loose rock - big chunks can break off and they hurt. Plenty of long slings are useful

Approach notes

Park in the viewpoint on the top of portsdown hill. From here you can walk down to left and there is an old chalk quarry in the trees.

In relation to the link below... err - are you trying to kill yourself? Is that a half rope? You might want to use a prussic to back yourself up particularly if you think your going to get nutted by a large chunk of chalk!

Just climbed good anchors at the top nice thick tree in which a system can be put in place, very simple and brilliantly fun abseil. Clear routes all the way up and very quiet so no nosey onlookers :)

Checked this place out on 19/03/11. The two climbs going over the cave are clear and can be climbed on a top rope. It is clear on the top so a system can be put in place. I know these climbs have M grades but I don't know what there trad grade would be.

the whole area around there has been trimmed and tidy so access is much easier now

You are having an absolute laugh!! I’ve just been up to check this place out: The top is overgrown, the bottom is overgrown and half of the face is overgrown. The one place where access can be made well enough to set up a top rope and where it looks like there is a potential climb to be had is a no go due to VERY crumbly rock; if you can call it that. If you haven't got axes, crampons and a petrol strimmer then forget it!
