The rock varies in character from typically quarried on the lower tier through to more abrasive rock on the upper tier where blasting has uncovered large tracts of calcite-encrusted rock which almost feels like natural limestone. As with most quarries, extra vigilance needs to be exercised by both climber and belayer here given the blasting activity which has created potential for loose rock.
Don't swim in the bright blue toxic pool (as if you needed telling)!

A fine delicate rib left of the hammer-head block on excellent rock. The first bolt is tricky to reach if the grass is wet. © Rockfax

βeta: Several grades harder than 6a+ if you are 5'1'' with negative ape index!! Atleast 6c. I went on to Calci Mauve (6b) and The Omen (6b) and onsighted them with no problem. But Bag of Bones I had to rest several times and really struggled as there are no intermediate crimps between the vague holds. Going up to the first bolt was not bad if you dry your shoes, but on the face after that it was very bare in terms of anything for hands or feet to get up to the next teeny crimp. I did it as a "warm up", so maybe I'd manage it later in a session, but it's at least 6c (probably even harder) if you're very short. I'm relieved Steve suggested i try it as a top-rope (which i thought odd for a 6a+) as he had a feeling it would be really tough for the short.

βeta: Brilliant! Excellent, Superb climbing. Just how I like em. But surely harder than 6a+. I was looking for a route to warm down on and it was the hardest (and best) I've led all year. But superb. I've led many many 6a+ in several countries, but this was way harder. And brilliant. I reckon 6b or even 6b+ and so does the bloke I was climbing with who found it harder than Rage at Horseshoe, which he has just done. Rage is 6b. I'd definitely do it again, but 6a+? Hmmm. | βeta?
