THE classic waterfall in Hemsedal, with world class status. Normally climbed from late January until late in the season. The distribution and volume of ice varies from year to year, and it is often possible to improvise interesting variations on the guidebook-described lines. The routes on the right side get more direct sunlight, however they can still be climbable during late season. It's standard practice to abseil from beneath the cornice on all the routes.
Good topo here.
The approach can take as little as 30 minutes in good condtions for a fit team, or up 3 hours in deep snow without snowshoes or skis. Snowshoes are strongly recommended if there is no track. Be wary that there can be a lot more snow high up on the approach than by the road. The final approach on the open ground below the waterfall can be avalanche prone. Check varsom.no for the avalanche forecast.
