One of the legendary big walls of the Vallee de l'Arve, Les Vuardes feels more committing than many other places owing to its famously sandbagged grading, extensive run-outs, exposed positions and wild atmospheric beauty.
The crag consists of 3 main sectors looking - Fantasia, Derive and Costa. It is usually accessed via abseil by means of the Plein Gaz abseils (Fantasia and Dérive sectors) or the Plénitude abseils (Costa sector).
Pass through the village of Romme-sur-Cluses, and park a short way up a forest track which is only accessible to 4x4 vehicles. From here, count an hour's hike up the track in order to access the climbing sectors via rappel from the top. The hardest part of accessing the crag can be the walk from the track to the rappel points - depending on the state of the vegetation, the trails may not be easy to pick out.
Climbed Fantasia, yet another sand bag but wonderful climbing. Descended the gully to access the start, like everything else at this crag, this is not to be treated lightly! walts4 - 05/Oct/15 |
