45m. This idiosyncratic route is worth doing if you fancy something very different and don't mind a little walk in (about 1.5 miles). Very unlikely anyone else will be there...too many routes are closer to the car in the Adirondacks! Situated at the other end of Pitchoff, so accessed from the 'Rock and River' car park. Walk up Jackrabbit trail for about a mile till hit an obvious beaver dam. Turn left and see the Barkeater Cliffs on your left. Head up the hill towards them (make your own route through the trees and over rocks). Muttly is on the right of the crags. You should see a thin yellow smear, with a tree half way up the route. It's usually a thin smear at the bottom, better ice towards the obvious tree. Get through the tree and you enter a cave/chimney, which is the crux. Choice of fatter ice right in the cave but then you have to get out of it, or much thinner ice straight up the chimney but you can lean on the wall behind you. Getting out is tough whichever way you go! Finishes up easier angle ice. This route is difficult to grade. It will feel like a harder and less protected lead than 3+.
