One of the most prominent and emblematic peaks of the Central Massif from the north.Peña Castil is also the end point of several ski-touring itineraries, with Canal del Fresnedal being one of the most classic ski descents in Picos de Europa.
Approach notes
Normal route: From Collado Pandébano via Vega las Moñas and Collado Camburero.For Corredor Noroeste: from Collado Pandébano via Collado Vallejo (approach route to Vega de Urriellu and Naranjo de Bulnes). Leave the path to head uphill on Valle del Agua, then heading for Jou Carnizoso (approx. 2 1/2 hrs to start of route).
Access Advice
The approach via Collado Vallejo in winter is strongly discouraged if there is any risk of avalanche. This part of the trail (after Collado Vallejo) does get avalanched every winter.
