Access Banned
WARNING: Worbarrow Tout and Gad end lies within the danger area of the Army Tank Ranges, which are open to the public only at specified times. Unfortunately the following descriptions are for the record only, as even when firing is not taking place the public are not permitted to stray from footpaths. The by laws forbid climbing anywhere within the Lulworth firing ranges, and the army state that those found off the way marked paths may be liable to prosecution.
S1. A deep water solo mini adventure.
Approach: park up in Tynham car park, walk down to Worbarrow beach and head west until the beach stops and the rock takes over. The route is a sea level traverse along this headland for 400m into Arish Mell hidden cove.
Access: Only open weekends, MOD access Mon-Fri. Take a dry bag as one section requires a swim across a zawn. Hide tide and no SW swell essential.
Route: Climb west 2m above the sea. Climb easily over initial headland into a recessed bay, climb the crimpy wall above a shallow reef (crux-S1) to easier ground. Bumble along for 100m before encountering another bay, climb the low level sea wall on huge jugs until you reach an amazing cave. Here you have two options; option 1 - climb the stunning 45 degree roof on massive holds exit and head back to sea level via exit slab or option 2 - venture deep into the back of the zawn and out of the far side via a trickly mantel move on a slab (crux 2). Jump in and swim across a twin zawn to reach the final slabby wall and follow this into Arish Mell beach. Walk back over the hill to car park.
