Vlad the Impaler repeated after 13 years

Alan Wilson and Steve Crowe have repeated Vlad the Impailer (E7 6b) at Dove Crag, 13 years after the first ascent by Martin Berzins and Neil Foster. The best Lakes summer in years has seen a huge amount of activity on the high crags, with many classic extremes being cleaned and re-climbed, as well as a substantial amount of new route activity. Dove Crag's impressively steep North Buttress has been the focus of this activity. Local boys Chris Hope and Duncan Booth added a bold direct start to the Flying Fissure Finish - Fetish for Fear is the 2nd E8 on the crag, after McCaffie's 2002 route Fear of Failure. Next, Steve Crowe climbed The Brasov Incident (E6 6b), a sweeping l-r girdle. Then Alan Wilson powered his way up the super-steep Dusk til Dawn (E7 6b) which starts up Bucket Dynasty and then takes a line left of Pail Face. Check out Steve Crowe's website for his excellent Dove Crag Special Report.
